Application of the
Unit
This unit applies to assisting with the overhaul or repair of fluid power (pneumatic or hydraulic) equipment used in the cotton ginning process.
Work can relate to both scheduled maintenance during the ginning off-season and unscheduled maintenance during ginning.
Work may be conducted in small to large scale ginning enterprises and, while the application of the unit will normally be as part of a team, there may also be individual activities required. Work is performed within defined procedures under direct supervision.
The application of this unit is according to OHS practices of the enterprise and workplace practices, which may include:
requirements prescribed by legislation, awards, agreements and conditions of employment
standard operating procedures
work instructions
oral, written and visual communication
quality practices, including responsibility for maintenance of own work quality and contribution to quality improvement of team or section output
housekeeping
tasks related to environmental protection, waste disposal, pollution control and recycling
This unit requires knowledge of the ginning process and ginning machinery. In addition, problem solving skills, initiative and enterprise are required to assist in identifying faults and determining causes. Skills associated with planning and organising are also required.
This unit requires communication abilities to interpret and complete maintenance reports and team work skills to provide technical assistance. Learning skills are applied when gathering information to inform fault diagnosis.
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required in assisting a specialist technician during the overhaul or repair, in or out of season, of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment associated with machinery used in the cotton ginning process.
